I decided to make Weitz & Luxenberg my law firm in 2012, about five months after I was found to have stage IV asbestos lung cancer.
I was in the construction business back in the 1940s and 1950s. There was a lot of asbestos involved in that in those days.
For many years I had breathing problems that required the care of a pulmonologist. He kept giving me X-rays and one day he says he thinks he’d better send me to the cancer clinic.
When you have stage IV cancer, that’s about as serious as it gets. As it was they had to take a good chunk of my lung out and treat me with radiation. But even so they gave me a 50-50 chance of surviving.
Right around that same time, I was watching television and kept seeing commercials for different law firms talking about the millions of dollars available for people who have lung cancers that are caused by asbestos exposure.
These commercials would say that if you’re one of the people affected by this, then you should apply for help.
So I thought, OK, I’ll do that. What I did was I got hold of the first law firm whose commercial they showed when I happened to have a pen and paper handy to write down the phone number.
That law firm was not Weitz & Luxenberg. It was another firm. I contacted that other firm, and the next thing I knew I was being pushed into signing up with them. I didn’t much care for that kind of sales job being done on me.
So I kept looking around. And one reason I kept looking is because I know from experience that if you want a good result you’ve got to go with the best.

The attorney from Weitz & Luxenberg who I worked with was a young lady by the name of Neidra Wilson. I was impressed with her caring and understanding. She was very kind, very sympathetic. She was very interested in me and in making sure that I was helped and properly taken care of.

As a result, I felt very comfortable working with them. It was like the good feeling you have when things fit right into a groove.
