We are honored to report this news on behalf of the thousands of clients we are currently representing. For more than 30 years, we have made it our mission to stand up against companies that put profit over people, companies that care more about their bottom line and less about the quality of their products.

We at Weitz & Luxenberg are continuing our efforts to fight on behalf of people who have been injured or harmed in some way due to the negligence of others. We aim to build on the success we have achieved so far, so that our clients continue to receive the justice they deserve.

As a national law firm, Weitz & Luxenberg has stood up to corporate giants and secured nearly $18 billion on behalf of clients harmed by everything from defective joint implants to dangerous medications to cancer-causing substances such as asbestos. As long as there are companies willing to put your lives in danger, we will remain steadfast in our efforts to hold them accountable for the injuries they cause.

Some of the firm’s most notable victories include:*

$9 Billion — A Louisiana jury awarded $9 billion to a man who developed bladder cancer after taking the diabetes drug Actos. The verdict ordered two defendant pharmaceutical companies to pay $6 billion in punitive damages plus an additional $3 billion. In the suit we filed on our client’s behalf, we claimed the companies failed to warn him about the increased risk of developing cancer.

$2.5 Billion — Weitz & Luxenberg helped secure this settlement on behalf of thousands of patients whose DePuy ASR hip implants failed. They needed to undergo revision surgeries. Claimants in this lawsuit received standard base payments of $250,000 each. The medical device manufacturer of these implants waived agreed to fund the six-figure settlement.

$1 Billion+ — Weitz & Luxenberg helped secure a global settlement with Stryker for its defective Rejuvenate and ABGII modular hip implants. Roughly 3,000 patients who received this faulty implant and needed to undergo a revision surgery were awarded gross base awards of $300,000 per failed implant. There is no overall cap or fixed fund under this settlement program.

$240 Million — Weitz & Luxenberg helped secure compensation on behalf of clients who received a defective Wright Medical metal-on-metal Conserve, Lineage, or Dynasty hip implant.

$190 Million — A jury awarded five Weitz & Luxenberg clients $190 million after they spent decades exposed to asbestos. They developed mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer linked directly to asbestos exposure. Asbestos is a known carcinogen. It was the largest award for a consolidated asbestos case in New York history.

$13.5 Million — The jury awarded one of our clients $4.5 million along with $9 million in punitive damages in one of the first trial cases against Merck for its medication Vioxx. Hundreds of thousands of Americans may have suffered severe and life-threatening heart complications after taking Vioxx.

*Past performance is no guarantee of future results. The Actos verdict was reduced to approximately $38 million by the trial court on October 27, 2014. The settlements in which Weitz & Luxenberg played leadership roles included patients not represented by W&L.
