I am excited to join Weitz & Luxenberg. I feel the shared energy here — that we’re working with the same goals in mind. We want to help our clients, particularly people who have been significantly harmed by the actions of corporations.”
Edward M. Costello, III, has joined Weitz & Luxenberg’s knowledgeable team of asbestos and mesothelioma attorneys. He joins us after having litigated personal injury cases for over a decade, obtaining significant settlements and jury verdicts for his clients.
Mr. Costello felt drawn in when he learned Weitz & Luxenberg was expanding our team of experienced plaintiff’s attorneys. He was looking for a new work opportunity that could bring about even more meaningful results. Mr. Costello sensed right away his experience and goals would be a good fit with W&L.
Your Life Is at Stake
The bottom line for Mr. Costello has been helping people. But with asbestos exposure, even more is at stake. Asbestos related diseases not only put your quality of life at stake — these illnesses often put your life at stake.
“I want to do everything I can legally to help our clients receive the compensation they deserve,” points out Mr. Costello. “We cannot undo the harm they have experienced, but I hope getting a just outcome is of some help to our clients and their families.”
Establishing Trust Is Key
“When meeting a client for the first time, establishing trust is the most important thing,” Mr. Costello believes.
He continues, “First and foremost, I want my client to feel comfortable. You may have preconceived notions about personal injury attorneys. I am there to assure you we are there for you. This includes preparing you for the legal process ahead.”
Creating Risk for Defendants
“As trial attorneys, we must prepare every case as if it is proceeding to trial. While only a small percentage of cases actually see the inside of a courtroom, the risk to defendants that we create by being prepared drives results,” Mr. Costello says.
“We prove to the companies we are suing that we are prepared and that we will be successful at trial.”
Sharing Good News Is the Best Part
“My favorite cases are those where I get to work with a client from the very beginning,” Mr. Costello reveals. “I want to be there for you every step of the way.”
He discloses, “Winning trials is exciting, but the very best part is when I get to call a client with good news. Letting them know that they have finally been heard.”
“When I call with good news, the waiting and wondering is over,” Mr. Costello explains. “The uncertainty is finally resolved, and our clients can take a deep breath.”
Experience with the Law
Mr. Costello has handled hundreds of cases and secured millions of dollars on behalf of his clients. For more than a decade, he has honed his skills working for a variety of law firms. He has handled personal injury, premises liability, products liability, construction, and medical malpractice cases.
“The most important part is my client,” Mr. Costello declares. He learned early on in his career that the most meaningful work comes from helping individual people, rather than large corporations.
But Mr. Costello has worked on both sides of the aisle. At one point, he worked for a large insurance company. And he realized, “It felt wrong defending a multibillion-dollar company in order to save them a few bucks.”
Mr. Costello would much rather give everything he’s got to helping people harmed through no fault of their own. And his efforts have earned him accolades.
In 2019 and 2021, Mr. Costello received “Top 100 New Jersey Jury Verdict” awards. And in 2020, Mr. Costello was named 2020 South Jersey Magazine’s automotive section “Top Attorney.”
